From the outside looking in, Tim Tollefson is one of the most accomplished ultra trail runners in the world. He’s won races like the Javelina Jundred, Lavaredo Ultra Trail 120K, and the Ultra Trail Australia 100K. He is also the last American to make the podium at the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc.
But on the inside, it’s a different story. For nearly two decades, Tollefson has struggled with body dysmorphia, a condition that has had him obsessively counting calories and binge eating, as well as grappling with unrealistic body standards for runners. Tollefson hid this inner battle for years. Now, he’s sharing his story with the world in the hopes that it helps other people struggling with similar mental health issues.
