Inventor of the internal-frame backpack. An avid climber and backpacker, Lowe became frustrated with the packs available in the 1960s. Classic framed models positioned weight high over the shoulders, making it difficult to balance during technical scrambles, while frameless options were too small for lengthy backcountry treks. So 聽that contoured around the body, bringing the wearer鈥檚 center of gravity closer to the hips. Every internal-frame pack ever since has derived from his basic concept.聽
