Outlier聽founders Abe Burmeister and Tyler Clemens believe that clothing should be liberating. It should never restrict what you do with your day. They started their Brooklyn-based company in 2008 because Burmeister wanted an unrestrictive pair of pants he could ride his bike to work in that he felt comfortable wearing in the office. Clemens sought an oxford with similar functionality. Their uniquely iterative industrial design-informed approach yielded the聽 (made in New York's Garment District using Swiss Schoeller fabric) and the .

“The world does not need more design; it needs less,” said Burmeister. “Outlier began with one particularly elusive value: an intense feeling of exhilaration and liberation that comes from riding in the city. We want to take that feeling and bring it everywhere we travel.”

Enter the long staple cotton Storm King Parka. It's聽extremely breathable, highly water-resistant, and completely windproof. The designers scrapped the Gore-Tex because it's too shiny, and it's clammy. “The highly twisted yarns in cotton canvas has a complex face that is classic and that fits in an urban environment,” said Clemens. “If you're summiting Everest, get Gore-Tex. If you're walking in Westchester, try the Storm King.” Though the Vancouver-sewn Storm King is not made for expeditions, it's seam taped and聽like the cotton canvas worn by WWII military men and will keep you dry for hours. Available October 2011, $750,
