The Army just awarded a contract to Oshkosh Corporation to supply 17,000 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV)鈥攎ilitary speak for a large, powerful, heavily armored vehicle that will replace the old Humvee.
The specs are on point. Each JLTV has the ballistic protection of a small tank and can withstand the under-belly blasts that destroyed many of its predecessors. It also has IED detection and jamming,聽can get out of trouble fast, with handling like a Baja racer, and tops out at an estimated聽speed of over 100 miles per hour. Of course, you can also mount large guns on top.
Oshkosh is supposed to deliver the vehicles in about ten months. No word on whether a citizen version is in the works.
