Why It’s CoolThe R2000 is built with Optimo, a proprietary aluminum alloy that Cannondale says is 15 percent stronger than conventional blends. The result: a very durable bike built with less material—this one checks in at 17.5 pounds. It felt pert and spunky as I jammed around my favorite no-mercy one-hour climbing loop, grinding up 10 percent grades with nary a hint of frame flex. 禄 The workhorse Shimano Ultegra parts clicked and kerplunked flawlessly. Cannondale smartly offers the bike in 18- or 27-speed versions—choose one based on your fitness and local geography. 禄 You won’t get upgrade fever, thanks to feathery Mavic Ksyrium wheels—$850 a pair 脿 la carte—and niceties like an accommodating Fi’zi:k Poggio saddle and a carbon-fiber seatpost.
Hmmm . . .Aluminum bikes dressed with Ultegra parts can be had for less than $1,500; you’re paying a premium for Cannondale’s refined ride and attention to detail, plus those wheels.
