Kelly Slater moved into third place in the overall ASP standings when the Hurley Pro at Trestles on Thursday. “I feel like I鈥檝e had so many good years at Lowers and the pressure is
really on every year to make the final鈥擨 feel like it鈥檚 been like that
since I鈥檝e been on tour,” said Slater. “It鈥檚 cool to win the 50th here. I won my first
event as a pro here and it鈥檚 great to get this win.鈥
That first win came 22 years ago, . Since then, he's won the event four additional times. This year, the 40-year-old, 11-time world champ beat Australian Joel Parkinson in a final round with three- to five-foot waves. Current world number one, Mick Fanning, lost to Slater in a semifinal round.

from there the title race would have just been further away,鈥 Fanning
said. 鈥淗e surfed a really smart heat and threw caution to the wind and
it paid off.”
The seventh of 10 ASP World Tour events will begin on September 28 off the southwest coast of France.
