The put most of coastal North Carolina under a hurricane warning yesterday afternoon, and local surfers immediately headed to the beach, . Hurricane Earl, which has already begun kicking up inordinately nice surf, is expected to move directly past North Carolina over the next day or so and continue paralleling the coast.
Surfers continue to flock to south-facing and protected breaks, such as the one at Masonboro, where waves have been best as Earl approaches. School-aged kids and adults alike have been playing hooky to catch some of the action.
“This is, like, prime time,” said 17-year-old Evan Barton.
