Surfer Andy Irons took the title at the earlier this weekend, winning his first ASP event in more than three years. Irons defeated CJ Hobgood during a set of 3-4 foot waves in the finals to take the crown.
“I did it!” Irons exclaimed. “I dedicate this win 100% to my wife, Lindy, she is everything to me and without her, I鈥檇 be nothing,” Irons said. “I really, really like competing because I love to win and I feel on top of the world today. I surf because I love to win. I love this feeling.”
Irons moved up to seventh place in the ASP, while Kelly Slater moved up to second place behind Jordy Smith.
鈥淚鈥檓 up there pretty close,鈥 Slater said . 鈥淕oing all the way to J-Bay and getting 17th makes me wish I had stayed home. You lose confidence and waste time on planes. That鈥檚 the way it goes 鈥 you have good events and bad events. This one has been pretty good though. The waves haven鈥檛 been good, but we鈥檝e seen a lot of cool things. We鈥檝e seen the young guys really step up and we鈥檝e seen Andy (Irons) come back and put one together.鈥
