Lindsey Vonn captured her second World Cup title of the year with a victory in Thursday鈥檚 season-ending super-G in Meribel, France, . She clinched her second World Cup title in as many days after Wednesday鈥檚 victory in the downhill.
Vonn entered the race with a miniscule lead over Austrian Anna Fenninger, who put her under pressure with the fastest run so far. But Vonn was faster on all sections of the course and won by a half-second. Fenninger placed second, and her rival for the overall World Cup title, Tina Maze, came in third.
Vonn鈥檚 victory marked her fifth super-G title and 19th World Cup title. She broke her own records for both World Cup race victories and season titles for a woman. Vonn tied Swedish legend Ingemar Stenmark鈥檚 record for World Cup titles by a ski racer of either gender.
After a series of knee injuries that began in 2013, Vonn missed the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and went almost two years without a World Cup victory, but her two titles this year should leave no doubt that she鈥檚 back. 鈥淓ven though I have 19 [World Cup titles], these two are probably the most special of all of them,鈥 Vonn told the AP. 鈥淧retty much everyone didn鈥檛 think I would be back. For myself, for everyone who doubted me, this is a pretty good answer.鈥
