The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) canceled the Cyclo-Cross World Cup event scheduled to take place in Montreal this September, published last week on the organization鈥檚 website. The international governing body for cycling declared that the UCI and Cycling Canada had failed to reach a comfortable fundraising benchmark.
鈥淒espite final efforts to secure the significant government funding necessary to host a high-level World Cup event, this has not been received in time to comfortably proceed,鈥 the statement reads. 鈥淲ith teams and suppliers needing to plan ahead, it was felt that the decision not to proceed for 2015 had to be made at this time.鈥
Upcoming 2015鈥2016 Cyclo-Cross World Cup events include stops in Koksijde, Belgium, in November, and Ligni猫res-en-Berry, France, in January.
