Heavy rain during Stage 5 of the Tour de France caused more crashes and injured riders, . Just two days after a 20-bike pileup聽forced then-leader Fabian Cancellara to withdraw from the race, two more crashes left riders injured and unable to complete the Tour.聽

Early in the stage, French rider Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) crashed and was transported to the Arras hospital by ambulance. Bouhanni had no fractures聽but suffered injuries to his wrist, ribs, and elbow.

About three hours later, FDJ rider Steve Morabito crashed (but will continue racing), bringing the total number of crashes to at least six.
