Controversial plans opposed by residents

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency last week unanimously approved a controversial plan to expand the on Lake Tahoe’s western shore. JMA Ventures, which owns the 1,235 acre ski area, spent five years lobbying for approval to bulldoze the property and build new ski-in condos, residential lodges,聽a 75-room hotel, and 15,000 square feet of retail space. Opponents of the plan that it would increase traffic, worsen air pollution, and send runoff into Lake Tahoe. Supporters said the expansion was essential for the viability of Homewood Mountain Resort. 鈥淲ithout improvements, there will be change 鈥 atrophy and closure of businesses,鈥 said Ron Parson, general manager of Tahoe’s Granlibakken Resort and Lodge.
