Swiss Court Allows Google ‘Ski View’

Pictures of Swiss ski runs included in Google’s Street View will remain online after Switzerland’s highest court ruled on Friday that they don’t violate the country’s famously strict privacy laws. Privacy activists filed a lawsuit against Google in 2009, alleging that Google broke Swiss law by capturing images of people on the slopes and nearby buildings without obtaining individual permission. In its decision, the court said that Google did not have an obligation to protect people’s identities outside of certain sensitive areas like courts and schools. Google in early 2010, when they photographed trails in Whistler using a specially equipped snowmobile.
