One possibility for the slip is a report from private group Boston 2024, which is responsible for organizing the bid. The report found that hosting the Olympics would require hundreds of millions of dollars in public funding. The group had previously said the bid would use private funding. Steve Koczela, president of the group responsible for the poll, told the New York Times that the realization 鈥渇ocused people on their worst fears about the Olympics鈥攖he expense, the promises, and that they didn鈥檛 know everything that鈥檚 going on.鈥
