Ultrarunner Nicole Studer broke the North American 100-mile trail record at the Rocky Raccoon trail race in Huntsville, Texas, beating the previous record by 35 minutes with a time of 14 hours, 22 minutes.
Studer was more than an hour ahead of the next finisher, averaging 8:37 per mile. She said the flat, less-technical trails gave her an advantage.
鈥淚鈥檓 dumbfounded. I didn鈥檛 expect to break the record,鈥 Studer . 鈥淚t鈥檚 the kind of terrain I can train for. There are no technical trails or mountains in Dallas. It鈥檚 one of those courses I really like.鈥
Studer, a consultant for a professional services firm, won the Rocky Raccoon in 2014 and 2013. In August, she plans to run the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc 100 in France.
