A new bout of winter weather could spell the end of the fall season for climbers in the Himalayas. Teams on Cho Oyu, Shishapangma, and Manaslu all canceled or postponed their summit bids over the weekend after a large storm settled over the range, dropping snow for three days. Forecasts for the region had suggested an open window early this week, but it now appears that a shift in the jet stream will bring high winds and cold temperatures to the region and may not let up until the spring, effectively closing the fall weather window for climbing. At least one team managed to summit: a Korean expedition led by Jae-Soo Kim last Friday.
