Which ski gloves will work for the whole season, for skiing in both the East and the West?

I've been looking for some gloves or mittens that will suit me for the whole ski season for both the east and west coast. So far I've come down to the Scott Cocoon and a Level Mitten. What do you suggest? Brian Boston, MA

Yeah, I聮ve got it. Not that I think that one glove does it all; I like to keep a few different types in my ski bag so I can choose one based on conditions. But my favorite is the Randonnee ($100). It聮s just a great glove, with outers of Marmot MemBrain combined with Primaloft insulation and a Gore-Tex liner. Very warm, waterproof聴great from freezing down to zero or below (when it gets really cold, add a silk glove liner). It聮ll take you from the icy East to powder in the West. But for all that, it聮s remarkably soft and nimble. You can tie shoelaces while wearing a pair.

I also like 聮s Innuendo glove ($99). Gore-Tex outers in this case, lofty insulation and leather palms with long cut so they fit up and under a jacket (same for the Randonees). Like the Marmot gloves, warm to quite-cold conditions, waterproof, tough.

For warmer conditions, throw in a pair of All-Weather Gloves ($35). These are water-repellent, medium-warm gloves for when it聮s around freezing. Or, Thermo Gloves ($35), made with windproof fleece that聮s great when it聮s chilly but not really cold. A good option for you.

Point the tips downhill and rip it!
