The eighth episode of Xavier de le Rue's snowboard series Timeline was posted yesterday on . In the five-minute short, de le Rue joins fellow big-mountain riders and filmmakers Jeremy Jones, Jimmy Chin, and Renan Ozturk in an attempt to ski the Grand Teton for their upcoming feature-length film .
What's not included in the film are the behind-the-scenes spills and mishaps that the crew encountered while filming. On April 1, Chin was caught in an avalanche on Albright Peak in Grand Teton National Park, later telling the that he “took a ride and got out.鈥 He was uninjured in the slide. Some uncertainty surrounded early reports or the incident, however, as it coincidentally occurred on April Fool's Day, when are prevalent, especially on the Web.
The next week, Ozturk took a tumble off a cliff while riding in the Rock Springs area south of Jackson. He didn't fare quite as well as Chin.
The crew are fortunate to have avoided a major mishap, but it's an interesting perspective on what's involved in making the films we enjoy and a reminder to keep safety first.
