Shaun White Nabs Olympic Berth

It’s official. Snowboarder will fly during the slopestyle competition at Sochi despite a nasty crash during qualifiers Thursday.  

White, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in the snowboarding halfpipe, will have a chance to win another medal in slopestyle after taking the second of two qualifying events in Mammoth Lakes, California.

The day didn’t start off well for White, who of the day. Considered a favorite for gold at the upcoming Olympic games, the reigning champion stayed on the ground stunned for nearly five minutes before heading down the mountain.

White made a dramatic recovery two hours later, pulling off a flawless run to earn the highest score of the day.

“I haven’t taken a hit like that in a long time,” he . “I’m so thankful to make that run and to be on top of the podium and heading to Sochi. I’m beside myself. It went from one side of the coin all the way to the other from this morning with that crash to, now, winning.”
