A sailor who had been lost at sea off the Hawaiian island of Oahu for 12 days was found alive and unharmed on Tuesday, .
The Coast Guard first received 67-year-old Ron Ingraham鈥檚 mayday call on Thanksgiving. Both masts on his sailboat were broken, and the vessel had begun to take on water. Assuming the boat was lost, the Coast Guard suspended its search, which spanned 12,000 square miles, on December 1.
But the Coast Guard picked up another mayday call on Tuesday morning and was able dispatch the Navy鈥檚 USS Paul Hamilton, which was nearby. The Navy soon found Ingraham safe. The sailboat, which is also Ingraham鈥檚 home, is being towed back to Honolulu.
