Rescues are finally underway to reach more than 1,000 tourists stranded in a remote Nepalese airport after bad weather has canceled departing flights since Wednesday. in Lukla, Nepal, which sees 500 tourists pass through on their way to Katmandu each day in normal operations. Lukla is the most common jumping-off point for people hiking to Everest base camp. Dwindling food supplies had forced several hundred tourists to hike four days to a smaller airport in the town of Jiri. Flights resumed when fog lifted on Monday.
