Emergency personnel used a stun gun to subdue a disoriented, combative hiker during a rescue Tuesday on the South Sister volcano in Oregon. A pair of hikers came across Duncan Tyler Maring, 24, near Moraine Lake, outside of , and called for help when Maring’s behavior appeared abnormal. An AirLink Helicopter brought deputies and rescuers to the scene, where they found Maring dehydrated and suffering from exposure. Deputies described him as angry and incoherent, and as medics attempted an evaluation, Maring lifted one of the rescuers off the ground. After he tried to fight further, a deputy shocked him with his Taser. Maring became cooperative after the shock but evacuation by helicopter was deemed too risky. Rescuers instead carried him off the mountain in a stretcher. He was later admitted to St. Charles Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Deputies have forwarded the case to local prosecutors for possible charges.
