Austrian Hannes Reichelt captured his first world title with a win in Thursday鈥檚 super-G at the Alpine World Championships in Vail, Colorado,聽.

The race, postponed a day due to snowy conditions, was a disappointment for the American hopefuls. Defending world champion Ted Ligety couldn鈥檛 replicate his past success, finishing ninth. Travis Ganong did not finish after missing a gate. Six-time Olympic gold medalist Bode Miller crashed hard during his run, suffering a gash on his right leg. He was able to finish the race after retrieving his gear, .

The race marked Miller鈥檚 season debut after back surgery in November kept him out of the season鈥檚 first races. It鈥檚 unclear if he will be able to race this weekend鈥檚 downhill and combined races. Before the crash, Miller had been skiing quickly and aggressively, setting new best times at each intermediate time check. 鈥淗is ski hooked up, and that pushed him into the gate a little bit and he caught his arm,鈥 teammate Ganong . 鈥淗e was a little unlucky. He was having an amazing run going for a medal. He was pushing harder than I鈥檝e seen him push all year long, and it was working.鈥
