American distance runners broke five national indoor records at meets across the country this weekend in one of the busiest stretches of racing of the year. Bernard Lagat , bettering Galen Rupp’s 2011 mark by more than four seconds. Rupp, racing at a separate meet in Fayeteville, Arkansas, in turn ran 8:09.72 to break Lagat’s old U.S. two-mile record by two seconds. Brigham Young University runner Miles Battey also lowered the NCAA mile record to 3:54.54, and U.S. and all-comers collegiate records fell both the men’s 3,000-meters and 5,000-meters.
