David Staley, a resident of the Denver area, set a new world record for the greatest distance run on a treadmill in 12 hours, . Covering 81.62 miles at the University of Denver鈥檚 Ritchie Center last Saturday, Staley beat the previous 12-hour record, set last year聽by his friend Denis Mikhaylov. He outran Mikhaylov by 1.09 miles.
Staley鈥檚 supporters kept him entertained during his run by holding stationary bike challenges and dance parties for him to watch. The 30-year-old said boredom wasn鈥檛 a problem because there was always something to focus on.
Though he now holds the Guinness World Record for a half day of running on a treadmill, Staley still prefers the trails and open roads. 鈥淚t鈥檚 so much easier to be outside,鈥 he told Yahoo News. 鈥淚 don鈥檛 know why you would run on a treadmill.鈥
