A Blackhawk helicopter from the National Guard landed on Colorado’s 14,226-foot Quandary Peak on Sunday morning to rescue two experienced climbers who were stranded near the mountain’s summit. A friend of the pair called Summit County’s on Saturday afternoon after they failed to report back. The team made contact with the pair early Sunday morning. The Blackhawk, which is designed to operate at high altitude, landed on Quandary Peak’s summit shortly thereafter and carried the climbers and the search and rescue team to safety. It is the first time a Blackhawk has been involved in a rescue on the mountain.
