Kenya’s Moses Mosop won Sunday’s Chicago Marathon in 2:05:37, breaking the race’s nine-year-old course record by five seconds and defeating pre-race challenger American Ryan Hall by more than two minutes. Russia’s took first for an unprecedented third-straight time. She crossed the finish line in 2:18:20, becoming the second-fastest women’s marathon runner in history. She now trails only Paula Radcliffe, whose 2:17:18 at Chicago in 2002 was then a world record. Hall, who had earlier announced his intention to break the American marathon record of 2:05:38, finished fifth in 2:08:04.
