The opening ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics are still a few hours away, but a world record鈥檚 already been broken鈥攂y a legally blind man. Im Dong-Hyun, a 26-year-old South Korean archer, set a new 72-arrow record of 696 points earlier today, breaking his own world record by three points. Im has myopia, meaning he has 20/100 vision in his right eye and 20/200 vision in his left eye. This was only the seeding round, so the points get erased as the archers head into the single-elimination round, where seeding-round scores determine the matchups. Im, along with his countrymen Kim Bubmin and Oh Jin-Hyek, also set the 216-arrow team world record with a score of 2,087, breaking the previous record by 18 points. Im is ranked second in the world, behind American Brady Ellison, who finished 10th in the seeding round. The men鈥檚 team archery final is on July 28, and individual competition wraps up on August 3.
