A wave of late-season tornadoes devastated parts of the Southeastern United States on Wednesday, killing at least six people in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Tornados are , but a small number occur each year in October and November. Intense storms like the ones seen this week are unusual so late in the year. The spring tornado season, which included a 24-hour period in which 287 tornadoes were recorded and 324 people were killed, was by some measures.
