Daniel Limo of Kenya won Sunday鈥檚 L.A. Marathon in 2 hours, 10 minutes, 35 seconds,聽. Limo permanently took the lead from fellow Kenyan runner-up Edwin Koech 20 miles into the race.
It was the hottest L.A. Marathon in history, with the temperature at the finish reaching 88 degrees Fahrenheit.
American Jared Ward placed third and captured the USA Track and Field Championship title. Ward鈥檚 finish was the highest by an American at the L.A. Marathon since 1995.
A Kenyan also prevailed in the women鈥檚 race. Ogla Kimaiyo finished in 2:34:10, 23 seconds in front of runner-up Natalya Puchkova of Russia. American Blake Russell placed third and won the USA Track and Field Championship title.
Prerace favorite and two-time U.S. Olympian Ryan Hall faded after a fast start, dropping out at the half marathon point after being passed by a chase group that included Ward. He did not appear to be injured. His wife, Sara Hall, made her marathon debut and finished well behind the leaders at 2:48:02.
