Interpol, the , has begun working with 13 countries in Asia to slow the illegal trade in tiger parts that has put the species on the . The agency will help coordinate anti-poaching initiatives in an effort to reach a 2010 goal of doubling the population of tigers in the wild by 2022. That number stands at 3,500, down from 100,000 in the early 20th century. The announcement was made by World Bank president Robert Zoellick at a tiger conference today in Hanoi, Vietnam.
