How come I never feel like I’m getting enough food?
Question:Dr. Maffetone,
As an endurance athlete (Ironman) following the 40-30-30 ratio and given the protein guidelines in The Zone, I don’t feel that I am getting enough food! I am always hungry (starving)! Do any quick-energy bars follow the guidelines of the diet?
Thanks,

Dr. Maffetone: Alice, always being hungry may be a symptom that something is not working right. My comments to also apply here.
Remember, you may need a 33-33-33 approach, or a 30-30-40, or some other ratio better suited for you. It’s also possible that you just need more food.
And don’t forget about stress; too much of it may push your metabolism to sugar-burning as if you were eating too much sugar and training too hard.
Look to real food first as your source of nutrition.
