Architect and Pritzker Prize laureate Shigeru Ban announced Thursday his plans to aid Nepal after the April 25 earthquake, .

Ban and his relief organization, Voluntary Architects鈥 Network (VAN), will distribute tents and plastic sheets for wall partitions, assembling them onsite as aid stations and temporary shelters. VAN hopes to work with local university students and architects in the next few months to build houses and community facilities based on prototypes the firm has developed.

鈥淭here are some projects which we had done and we will approach with our experiences for the recovery of Nepal,鈥 the firm .

Ban began designing emergency structures after the 1994 genocide in Rwanda and the 1995 earthquake in Kobe, Japan. Since then, he has deployed his work in disaster and conflict zones all over the world.
