A domestic cat gave birth last month to an endangered African black-footed kitten, scientists announced yesterday, raising hopes for the species survival. The kitten, named Crystal, was born at the Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species in Algiers and is the sister of . All the kittens were conceived through in vitro fertilization, but Crystal is the first to be carried by a domestic cat. “It gets along beautifully with the domestic cat mother,” director Earle Pope said. “They don’t know, or do not care, that it’s a different species.”
