On Wednesday, a Welsh Corgi believed to have died in a Montana avalanche that showed up at the motel where his family had stayed. On Saturday, David Gaillard of Bozeman, Montana was tele-skiing with his wife, Kerry, and their dog, Ole, when an avalanche broke above them, killing Dave Gaillard. After two hours trying to locate her husband with an avalanche transceiver, Kerry Gaillard went for help. A search and rescue team found Gaillard’s body but saw no sign of their dog. Four days later, staff at the Alpine Motel in Cooke City, Montana Ole was found lying in front of the room Gaillard had occupied before the avalanche. William Gaillard, David’s father, said he couldn’t believe the dog was able to survive freezing temperature and hike four miles back to town on its stubby legs. “It truly is a miracle,” he said.
