A 24-year-old Las Vegas man died Saturday while rappelling in Utah鈥檚 Zion National Park, . He was in Heaps Canyon when he fell 100 feet into a side canyon.

He fell around 7 p.m. on Saturday;聽his three companions made their way down to him. One stayed with him while the other two went to get help. They alerted park officials approximately聽four hours later, .

Rescuers used a helicopter brought up from the Grand Canyon early Sunday, and two Zion search and rescue members rappelled down, but the man had died. Zion officials told Fox 5 that the course the man and his friends were on consists of a challenging 3,000-foot descent that can take anywhere from 12 to 20 hours to finish.
