Willow Koerber, a mountain biker on the , has dropped out of the 2011 World Cup Series. Koerber, a two time bronze medalist at the Mountain Bike World Championships, found out she was pregnant听a day before 2011's opening World Cup event in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. She wrote on her , 鈥淲ith my team's support, I chose not to start the World Cup. At this point in my life, I could never forgive myself if something happened to this little soul who obviously has some wonderful reasons for choosing me as his mother.鈥澨
The announcement puts an end to what was expected to be a break out season for Koerber.听Last year, Koerber placed second overall in the World Cup Series and stirred up something of a controversy by for cycling ads.听Koerber, who is due on December 22, anticipates rejoining the field in the spring of 2012. 听
