Breaking Down the Moment Before the Jump

We're used to seeing amazing BASE jumping and wingsuit flying videos laid down over techno soundtracks with gratuitous slow mo. They're great. The video above works for a different reason.

It starts out with the simple sounds of at the edge of a cliff just before his jump. There's the sound of breathing as he practices tucking his arms, the rumple of his suit as he walks, and him mumbling while standing at the edge of a cliff visualizing his flight and marking his future path with his hands. At that point a soundtrack kicks in, but it's not what you'd expect. It's the sound of his heartbeat amplified. And, yes, it's real.

The video and the jump are shown in real time. Then music starts and you get the backstory, as well as some stats on the place, speed, distance, etc. That's all great to know, but the video works because it takes you into the stripped down moment before the jump.
