Weekend camping near Manhattan Question: I live in New York City and my boyfriend and I are looking to go camping somewhere close to the city for a weekend. I am looking for a campsite with basic facilities (bathroom and shower) and a place to pitch a tent. Any suggestions? We are clueless! Thanks for your help. Although it’s just a two-hour drive from Manhattan, you’ll feel like you’ve successfully shaken the rat race when you pitch your tent and begin to unwind to sounds of whippoorwills calling in the聽distance. Located on the 40-mile wild and scenic stretch of the Delaware River, the campground is a Godsend for hikers, boaters, and even climbers. If you’re a hiker, take the 3.75-mile trail from Kittatinny Point (the trailhead is 3 miles south of the park) to Sunfish Pond where you’ll run into the Appalachian Trail. Or you can access one if the many boat-launching sites located every 8 to 10 miles along the river. If you don’t have your own boat, call Pack Shack 国产吃瓜黑料s (717-424-8533) in Delaware Water Gap. They’ll provide you with a boat and even a shuttle service if you need it. If climbing’s your thing, bring your ropes and gear and head to the Kittatinny Point Visitor Center, where you’ll find the Heights of Madness (5.8) and Morning Sickness (5.11) routes. Both climbs are for experienced rockhounds only. If you’re a beginner, Pack Shack offers group and private lessons. To get to Worthington Campground from NYC, follow I-80 west 85 miles to the Delaware Bridge and exit onto Old Mine Road. You’ll find the campground 3 miles north.
