The Route: Cantering for a week along the sandy shores of this boardsailing mecca’s undeveloped Macanao Peninsula. You’ll ride 50 miles in all. Unmounted pursuits include swimming, snorkeling, and gorging on freshly grilled dorado.

Travel advisory: Switching from the international to the national airport in Caracas can be quite a hassle, especially if you don’t speak Spanish. Be sure to stay alert: The airport’s got plenty of pickpockets.
