Telemarking the gladed Eastern slopes Question: Is there a backcountry hut or yurt system in New Hampshire, Vermont, or New York similar to the ones of the Tenth Mountain Division system in Colorado? I am planning a winter cross-country and telemark trip to last about a week. I hope you can help me. Debra Kupinsky 国产吃瓜黑料 Adviser: This winter, for the first time in the East, backcountry hut and trail recreation will be possible at the Phillips Brook Backcountry Recreation Area in Stark, New Hampshire. The trail system is a result of a partnership between International Paper Company and Mountain Recreation, Inc. The 25,000-acre land tract will have 55 miles of trails, ranging from beginner to advanced, as well as a historic lodge on its own private lake. Outlying heated log cabins and yurts with beds and cooking facilities will be connected by a series of elevated mountain trails. Though this is the first winter of operation, the plan is to have guided dog-sled tours and hut-to-hut camping trips. Several acres of telemark skiing on gladed slopes will be available as well.
