Skiing at Quebec’s Mont Ste. Anne
Q: I will be spending Christmas weekend in Quebec, Canada. I will be staying with non-skiing friends in Quebec City at night and cross-country skiing at Mont Ste. Anne during the days. I’ve never been to Quebec before. Do you have any advice?

A: Don’t worry, you and your non-skiing cohorts will find plenty to do in and around Mont Ste. Anne. After you retire your nordic skis for the day, practice your triple axles on the ice rink right at the base lodge; skates rent for about $3 U.S. an
hour. Or, if you’re feeling more ambitious, set aside a day or two for a dogsledding trek. A two-hour jaunt will cost you about $32 U.S. An overnight excursion, including accommodations in a heated shelter (bring your own sleeping bag or rent one), goes for about $120 U.S. per person. For the hale and hearty, they offer a two-day/two-night wilderness discovery course (about
$105 U.S. per person). You’ll travel by snowmobile to a remote camp equipped with heated tents and spend the next day snowshoeing and learning the basics of igloo construction.
If you want to stay closer to home, rent a pair of snowshoes for about $8 U.S. a day and explore the 146-plus miles of backcountry trails that extend outward from the base lodge. Mont Ste. Anne also caters to adventure-hungry types, offering instructor-assisted paragliding flights from the summit for about $55 U.S. per ride. Finally, if what you really want is a dose of
