Searching for all-women travel groups
Question: I am a middle-aged woman looking to find travel and outdoor organizations that cater to women. Is there a directory of such groups?

国产吃瓜黑料 Adviser: For starters, let me recommend a few unique, women-only outfitters that collectively offer everything under the sun in terms of active vacations. Minneapolis-based non-profit organization Woodswomen,Inc. offers dozens of exciting travel opportunities for women of every age and experience level. Choose from any number of
their package trips, including backpacking, mountaineering, dogsledding, hiking, rock climbing, and horseback riding, or design your own itinerary. Trips are offered year-round and range in price from $39 to $2,595. Call 800-279-0555 for a catalog.

Idaho-based Womantours claims it is the only bicycle touring company that offers road trips exclusively for women. Two of their more popular trips are their Southwest Utah tour to Zion, Bryce, and Grand Canyon National Parks (offered May and September), and their tour of Banff and Jasper National Parks in Canada (offered in September). Call 208-354-8804 for more details. A
few other outfitters to consider are Women for Sail (800-346-6404), an 11-year-old learn-to sail program with courses in Key West and Sarasota, Florida in the winter and Annapolis, Maryland, and Traverse City, Michigan in the summer. Women Flyfishing (907-274-7113) provides classes, on-the-water schools, and guided fishing trips throughout Alaska, and, finally, Round the World
Travel (800-770-5241) offers a woman-only “Sense of Snow” trip which offers an exciting, safe, guided, learning environment for women who want to venture into the rare and wonderful world of winter in Alaska.

A few books that may overwhelm you with possibilities, but provide excellent food for thought are the Active Women Vacation Guide ($16.95, John Muir), and More Women Travel ($14.95, Penguin), both available through the Adventurous Traveler Bookstore (800-282-3963).
