Who Loves Ya, Keiki?
No place celebrates the family quite like Hawaii

By Bob Krist

Short of Disneyland, families have it best in Hawaii, particularly in the summer months when the keiki (kids) are out of school and the whole state pitches in to observe local holidays like King Kamehameha Day (June 11). Your kids will love the magnificent aina (land) and wai (water), but what they may well remember best is playing at the beach alongside Hawaiian children or surfing with real beachboys. Within a few days, words like aloha and mahalo (thanks) will creep into their language, and they’ll feel more like kamaaina (locals) than
tourists. They might even learn to like poi.
