The new Crater Lake Lodge
A: You’re right, Crater Lake Lodge finally reopened last May after being closed for renovation in 1989. Built in 1908, the lodge–at 7,100 feet–wasn’t designed to withstand the mind-boggling 600 inches of snowfall it got on average each year. In 1988 it was declared structurally unsound and underwent a top-to-bottom overhaul. Now only the Located on the east side of Rim Village in Crater Lake National Park, the 71-room lodge is open to visitors from May 18 to October 19. Doubles range from $105 for a first-floor room to $122 for a lakeside room. They take reservations up to two years in advance, so it’s a good idea to call well ahead of time.
