Mid-winter skiing in Austria, en famille

By Amy Marr

Question: Hi, I’m planning a one-week skiing trip to Austria in February, for a family of six with four kids ages 4 to 17. Any suggestions? We’re after affordable accommodations with full or half board. Thanks in advance for your advice.

A family vacation based from Lech provides many possibilities

ԹϺ Adviser: Given the size of your horde, I’d suggest opting for a package deal, by far the most cost-effective route en famille. Call ԹϺs on Skis (800-628-9655) for a variety of Austrian trips. You’ll probably have to pay the additional airfare to get to New York or another departure hub, but it’ll still be
cheaper. Here’s a sample itinerary: eight days in St. Anton (home to the world’s best ski school, hence ideal for families), airfare from New York, ground transportation, accommodations, breakfasts and dinners, all for $1,237 per person. AustriaSki (800-333-5533) offers a seven-night package to Innsbruck minus the dinners for just a tad more. Check to see if either
offer even better deals for kids. Lech, Austria’s Aspen, is a huge resort in its own right — and you can access four other ski villages via runs, lifts and cable cars. Might be a fun spot for your family. For information on family-geared accommodations in Lech, call the town’s tourist board at 011-43-55-8321610.
