Honeymooning in exciting Costa Rica
Question: My fianc茅e and I are headed to Costa Rica in mid-July for our honeymoon. We plan to spend two days in San Jose and spread the rest of our trip between both coasts, the rainforest, and the volcanoes.

Can you offer any advice on what to see? We’re more interested in an adventurous and educational experience than an idealistic (and boring) “inclusive” honeymoon.

Signs in Costa Rica warn visitors
of dangerous local snakes

国产吃瓜黑料 Adviser: I highly doubt you’ll experience even one minute of boredom on your honeymoon in Costa Rica.

For one, you’re on your honeymoon. For two, you’ll be in Costa Rica. C’mon! Even the transportation promises to be a serious adventure.

Mapache Wilderness Camp and Fishing Lodge on the Sierpe River was recently built by an Italian couple who invest part of their profits in land preservation. The rustic lodge consists of platform tents with signs that say “Do not forget that many kinds of dangerous snakes and crocodile families live close to the houses.” How’s that for excitement? The tents cost $45 per
person. Call 011-506-786-6565.

Also on the Osa Peninsula in Drake Bay is a serious high-flying adventure. You can swing in a chair via a pulley-and-cable arrangement and feel as if you’re flying among the monkeys and scarlet macaws. The price per person is $40. Call 257-5149.

Ca帽o Island, 13 miles offshore from Drake Bay, holds a number of sacred pre-Columbian burial grounds. For $65 you can take a boat trip to the uninhabited island and check out the artifacts that remain. The best part of the trip is when you don mask and snorkel and take off for the deep, where you’ll likely see moray eels and olive ridley turtles. You can hook up with
this boat tour through the Aguila de Osa Inn, reachable by calling 232-7722.

For unbridled romance, try Costa Rica Expedition’s Corcovado Tent Lodge on Playa Carate. According to one Costa Rica expert, it is the most isolated and beautiful stretch of beach in all of Costa Rica. One of the coolest parts is the treetop platform where you can spend the night 120 feet up in a tree. Call 257-0766.
