Getting away to the Chesapeake Bay
Question: I am looking to take a romantic getaway in the Chesapeake Bay area, perhaps Maryland. I would like something like a cabin or a cottage that provides privacy, a fireplace, a kitchen, and a hottub as an extra bonus. Please help.

Screw-pile lighthouses such as this one were once common on Chesapeake Bay

国产吃瓜黑料 Adviser: Unfortunately, “romantic” is usually equated with expensive. But if you don’t mind that caveat, try the Double Mills Guest House.

Nestled on a private 43-acre estate on the edge of the Tred Avon River, a tributary of the mighty Chesapeake Bay, the house is fully decked out with two bedrooms (one queen, one bunkbed), a full kitchen with granite countertops, and a full laundry.

The fabulously decorated living room has 16-foot ceilings, 8-foot-high French doors overlooking a pool, and a beautiful selection of early American antiques. Other amenities include a Jacuzzi (closed in the winter), a tennis court, a canoe, a full gym with state-of-the-art equipment, and a dock from which you can arrange to charter your own boat.

This understated but elegant retreat is within a few miles of the ultra-quaint historic town of St. Michaels, where you can shop to your heart’s content and eat your share of a catch-of-the-day lunch in chic corner restaurants. The special three-day fall price for this cottage is $1,350. The fall and winter (November 16 through April 30) weekly rate is $2,800 per week. Call
Joyce Wallace at Aaset Realty (410-820-8161) for more details.

Another possibility, if you aren’t averse to bed-and-breakfasts, is the Brampton Bed and Breakfast 1 mile outside of Chestertown, Maryland. This Greek-revival home was built in 1860 and has three 10-guest bedrooms, all of which contain high ceilings, big windows, and comfortable antiques.

I’d recommend booking the east or west cottage out back in the renovated horse barn, 50 yards from the main house. Each cottage has its own fireplace, whirlpool bath, and private garden. Unfortunately, there is no kitchen, but you will be served a fireside breakfast of buttermilk waffles and fresh fruit. Room rates range from $95 to $155 per night. Call 410-778-1860 for
details.
