First-class skiing in New Zealand
Question: What is a good place to snow ski in Asia-Pacific? I’m thinking about New Zealand, but I’d really like to know if I can ski in India or Nepal. Are there any ski areas in the Himalayas?

国产吃瓜黑料 Adviser: Sure there are ski areas in India and Nepal, but keep in mind, Nepal is one of the most impoverished nations in the world 鈥 ski areas are not high on the priority list.

If you’re looking for a ski-specific vacation, I’d head to New Zealand. Though the resorts themselves pale in comparison to Aspen’s glitz, the light, dry powder rivals the world’s best. Base your sojourn in Queensland, where you’ll find three major resorts just a half-hour bus ride away. The Remarkables is a great place to start, with terrain that will humble the most Black
Diamond of skiers. Lift tickets cost in the $36 range. From the States, the number to call for more information is 011-64-3-442-4615.

There are three or four major ski resorts in India, the biggest being Auli in northern Uttar Pradesh. Here you’ll find 2-mile long slopes with modern amenities such as a “remote-controlled hydraulic braking system.” The downfall of this resort is it has a limited season, running from January to March. For more information call 013-712-2226. If you have upwards of $600 to
blow, try your hand at heli-skiing in Manali, India’s Solang Nullah. Himalayan Journeys can give you more details.
