Finding the perfect East Coast spa Question: My wife and I are looking for a winter getaway for a long weekend in December, preferably to a spa (complete with pampering) on the East Coast, along the lines of your Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, recommendation, but not necessarily that close to the D.C. area. Mark Holland
国产吃瓜黑料 Adviser: After pulling out my trusty Spa Finder Magazine, I’ve found approximately 27 potential spa vacations in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states 鈥 everything from the groovy mid-priced New Age Health Spa two hours from New York City to the ultra-traditional and ultra-pricey Greenbrier All of these will pamper, but most cater to different needs 鈥 fitness, beauty, and wellness spas, luxury spa destinations, luxury spas at luxury resorts, weight-management spas, holistic-wellness spas, new-age retreats, mineral-spring spas, adventure spas, day spas, etc. 鈥 which is why I recommend calling Spa Finders at 800-255-7727. The largest spa and resort travel company in the world, Spa Finders will be a better resource than me. However, in my humble opinion, a few of the more comely options include the Nemacolin Woods Spa in Pennsylvania, Westglow Spa in North Carolina, and The Sagamore in New York. Nemacolin Woods Spa, 60 miles from Pittsburgh, has a 20,000-square-foot spa facility with a full range of options and treatments. You can have a manicure in the morning and move onto thalasso therapy after your fitness class. Also offered: hiking, golf, yoga, cross-country skiing, boating, and golf. Nightly double packages cost $287. The historic Westglow Spa in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina looks like a mansion out of Gone With the Wind, but offers the most up-to-date fitness programs, outdoor recreation, mountain hiking, and myriad treatments. And after an exhausting day you can retire to your cozy, antique-filled guest room. A four-night doubles package Ahhh. The Sagamore. Nestled on an island in a picturesque lake in the Adirondacks, the Sagamore dates back to 1883 and is on the National Register of Historic Buildings. In addition to the scenic backdrop that offers the traditional outdoor sports, the new spa features hydrotherapy, moortherapy, and a variety of massages for “thorough relaxation and rejuvenation.” Double rates for a two-night package range from $384 to $424. For reservations to any of the above-mentioned spas, call 800-255-7727. |
